With the example set by famous moms and dads like Angelina Jolie and David Beckham (whose kids are virtual “mini-mes” of their stylish selves), today’s parents have come to the decision that the traditional pink dress and plaid polo shirt are simply not good enough for their kids. Like what t-shirt designer Aaron Kingsley said, “The new generation of young, hip parents are looking for outfits they would wear themselves.”

It was no surprise therefore, that the recent launch of the recent launch of the Havaianas Kids Store in Rustans was well-attended by fans of the fashionable slippers. Wanting to adorn their children’s feet with the same comfortable and stylish Havaianas they love wearing, parents trooped to the event with their kids. Among those at the opening were, TV personality Lyn Ching and daughter Gabby, congressional spouse Georgia Remulla and kids Roxanne and Rocio and actress Cookie Pido who was with her son.

Held at the Buzzy Bees café, the opening transformed the kids section of Rustans into a children’s wonderland as the flip-flop company prepared special treats for their young guests. In true fashionista style, nail art sessions were held for girls while boys had glitter tattoos put on their ankles. A magician using Havaianas as props to his tricks made the event even more enjoyable for the kids.

The new store located at the 3rd level of Rustans makes it apparent how the Brazilian brand has made it their mission to make their slippers as popular with the kids as with their parents. With a large bench shaped like a giant lavender flip-flop and an area where kids can draw and paint, the store has a very kid-friendly ambience. Kids checking out the Russian Dolls, Pets, Radical and other slippers on display were actually encouraged by the sales people to touch and feel the flip-flops.

Though this is the first time the popular Brazilian brand has opened a store exclusively carrying the kids line in the country, Havaianas already has already built up quite a reputation among some kids (undoubtedly influenced by their parents), most of whom have been wearing the slippers for years. Three-year-old Lia Muńoz for example, has worn Havaianas for two years (more than half her life). Alyanna Madrilejos, an eight-year-old who was proudly showing off the Havaianas Stars she was wearing, probably explains it best why kids like her like the slippers so much: “because they’re soft and pretty”. Spoken like a true fashionista.

The kids line may also be found in other discerning retail outlets like All Flip-Flops, Chocolate Clothing Company, Gas and Kidsports. For more retail outlets including provincial locations, visit www.havaianasphilippines.com
